Drinking Green Tea Can Make You Live Longer

We have the solution to immortality... okay well not quite. But we do know how you can live longer! Drink more green tea.

According to a new study, regular consumers of green tea live longer and have a better chance at avoiding heart attacks or strokes. So, it’s time to up your daily dose.

The study was done by researchers from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

It included over 100,000 Chinese residents both men and women. It concluded that tea consumption was associated with reduced risks of cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality “especially among those consistent habitual tea drinkers.”

Participants who were drinking tea at least three times a week lived 1.26 years longer than those who weren’t. The study’s results also showed that the heavy tea drinkers were 20% less likely to develop heart disease or suffer from a stroke as well.

According to the data of the study, a breakdown of tea types showed that green tea drinkers lived healthier lives than the others.

What is Green Tea?

“Green tea is just tea that’s green right?” Yes, that is most definitely right but there’s more to it.

Both green and black tea are made from camellia sinensis leaves. But unlike other teas, green tea doesn’t go through an oxidation process.

Due to this difference, green tea remains a powerful tea full of polyphenols, which are micronutrients packed with antioxidants. Black tea leaves lose their polyphenols during the fermentation process.

Polyphenols have many health benefits but they are not stored in the body long term. This is why people who consistently drink green will see more positive effects.

Other Health Benefits Linked to Green Tea

Besides living longer, green tea has been shown to have many other health benefits.

Decreases Risk of Cancer (breast, bladder, lung, skin, prostate and more)

According to the National Cancer Institute, green tea consumption has been shown to decrease tumor growth in lab and animal studies. It can also help hold cancerous cells at bay.

Studies have shown positive impacts on the following types of cancer; breast, bladder, prostate, ovarian, lung and skin.

Lowers Cholesterol

An analysis of published studies in 2011 found that green tea consumption is linked to a decrease in cholesterol.

Promotes Healthy Weight Loss

Green tea is especially high in antioxidants known as catechins. A study showed that people who consumed green tea extract for 12 weeks experienced a significant loss in body fat.

Improves Memory & Skin

Not only can this tea boost brain function, but it can also smooth out your skin. The phenols in green tea have the ability to repair skin damage caused by sun exposure

Prevents Cavities

A study done in 2016 indicated that green tea may reduce oral bacteria. Less bacteria means that the beverage can control cavities and decrease your risk of developing oral cancer.

This study was done without any added sweeteners. Sugar and honey still promote cavities, so in order to reap the oral benefits you must drink your tea without any added sweetener.

According to a comprehensive review, green tea consumption is connected with decreased fasting glucose levels. It’s also associated with reduced fasting insulin levels, which are a measurement of diabetes health.

So, by consuming green tea regularly, you are able to maintain a low blood sugar and stable insulin level.

Decreases Stress and Insomnia

Green tea can have a calming effect on your body and mind.

It contains a compound called theanine. This compound reduces stress-related hormones and neuron excitement in your brain, and allows you to relax. Therefore, drinking green tea before bed can have a positive effect on your sleep quality.
