A sophisticated Japanese Sencha Cherry Rose tea

The Sencha cherry rose tea from GROSCHE is a blend of Japanese Sencha green tea, cherry essence and rose petals. Flavoured green tea is a relatively new phenomena. Combining natural rose petal flavours with Japanese style green tea is something very special and almost exotic.

What is Japanese Sencha green tea?

The Hunan Province in China produces some excellent Sencha green teas. Early in the new season the tea is a bright emerald green. It has the best flavor noted by a spring fresh character with pungency and body. People in Japan often use Sencha green tea for tea ceremonies that mark events of personal importance. Sencha tea is produced by steaming freshly plucked green leaf. In the next step, the leafs get rubbed either by machine or by hand for the needle-like tea leaf structure. The rubbed leaf is then pan fried or basket fired. As a result, Sencha has a distinctive glossy, almost waxy, appearance.

Sencha cherry rose flavour profile

This Japanese Sencha cherry rose tea smells of a summer fruit and has a beautifully rich taste. It blends the sweet cherry perfectly with the green tea. It also adds subtle hints of rose. Moreover, it’s a naturally milder flavour.

How to brew Sencha tea

The key thing to pay attention to when making green tea is the water temperature. Be sure to avoid pouring boiling water over your green tea. Boiling water can scorch the delicate leaves of a green tea. It can also over extract the tannins in the leaf and make it bitter. Because of the needle-like leaf structure we recommend teapots or cups with stainless steel infusers such as the JOLIETTE. When using a teapot with a glass infuser, the tea leaves could get stuck.

Brewing instructions

  • 1 heaping teaspoon of tea | 12 oz. / 350 ml of water
  • Steep for 2-3 minutes | water temperature: 75° C/ 170° F
