A classic organic Sencha green tea

The organic Sencha green tea from GROSCHE is a classic Japanese style green tea for your daily enjoyment. Deep-green, natural leaves produce this organic Sencha tea's delicate aroma and its smooth, sweet tasting vegetal flavour. The beautiful, unrolled green leaf resembles pine needles and is good for 2 or 3 infusions.

What is Japanese style Sencha green tea?

Early in the new season the tea is a bright emerald green. It has the best flavour noted by a spring fresh character with pungency and body. Because of the careful production, the Japanese use Sencha for tea ceremonies that mark events of personal importance. Sencha tea is produced by steaming freshly plucked green leaf. In the next step, the leafs get rubbed either by machine or by hand for the needle-like tea leaf structure. The rubbed leaf is then pan fried or basket fired. As a result, Sencha tea has a distinctive glossy, almost waxy, appearance.

Certified organic Sencha tea

This Japanese Sencha green tea is certified organic green tea. What does that mean for your tea?

  • No use of synthetic fertilisers or pesticides
  • Protection of lands surrounding gardens
  • Minimisation of pollution and optimisation of biological productivity
  • Replenishment and maintenance of garden soil fertility
  • Promotion of biodiversity in and around the gardens

How to brew Sencha green tea

The key thing to pay attention to when making green tea is the water temperature. Be sure to avoid pouring boiling water over your green tea. Boiling water can scorch the delicate leaves of a green tea. that can over extract the tannins in the leaf making it bitter. Because of the needle-like leaf structure we recommend teapots or cups with stainless steel infusers such as the JOLIETTE. When using a teapot with a glass infuser, the tea leaves could get stuck.

Hot tea

  • 1 heaping teaspoon of tea | 12 oz. / 350 ml of water
  • Steep for 3-4 minutes | water temperature: 75 C/ 170 F
