Pearl Matcha Tea

This organic, wholesome cup of perfection lends a thick, grassy, green tea character ideal for a morning or afternoon pick-me-up. We suggest this to anyone looking to enliven, uplift, and energize every aspect of themselves! Our Pearl Matcha tea is made using Pearl River Green tea leaves produced from the Jianxi Province in China. This leaf is still plucked and processed in the same way it was many hundreds of years ago. The finest leaves are picked and ground using a traditional stone grinder to powder the tea.

Matcha Tea Benefits

Matcha tea is a millennium old tradition, consumed by the Chinese Taoists and Japanese Zen Buddhist monks to relax and meditate whilst remaining alert. The Samurai also drank matcha ritually before going into battle to increase their energy and mental prowess. These qualities pertaining to matcha are due to L-Theanine, an amino acid which promotes the production of alpha waves in the brain, thereby inducing relaxation without the drowsiness. L-Theanine also produces Dopamine and Serotonins which enhance the mood, improve memory, as well as promote concentration. The effects of this amino acid can last up to 6 hours and leave no side effects such as nervousness or hypertension.

Matcha is also loaded with antioxidants, and among the most potent and beneficial is ECG. This super antioxidant is most recognized for its cancer-fighting abilities and for its immune-boosting authority. Matcha’s antioxidant content consists of 60% catechins, and boasts 100 times more ECGs than any other tea. In fact, based on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) conducted at Tufts University, one bowl of matcha contains 5 times more antioxidants than any other food source known on earth. Once powdered, the leaves release their high antioxidant and polyphenol content. If that weren’t enough, matcha can also boost one’s metabolism, lower bad cholesterol levels, and supply substantial quantities of potassium, Vitamins A and C, Iron, protein, calcium, and beta-carotene.

How to Prepare Ceremonial Matcha

Use a Matcha Perfect Teaspoon to add one spoonful to the matcha bowl. Boil 8-10 ounces of water and let stand for 3-5 minutes off the heat to reduce to 80 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, use the matcha whisk to break down any tiny lumps in the powder until it is very smooth. When the temperature of the water has cooled, pour half the amount; or 4 ounces into the matcha bowl. Begin to whisk immediately using brush-like strokes. The matcha should start to froth at the top. Add the rest of the water to the bowl and proceed to whisk once more until blended; approximately 30 seconds. Pour matcha into cup of your choosing and enjoy. To enjoy iced matcha, simply prepare the matcha as indicated above using only four ounces of water. Fill a cup or mug with ice, and then pour prepared matcha over the ice. Stir well and add more ice if needed.

How to Make a Matcha Tea Latte

To enjoy a matcha latte, prepare ceremonial matcha using only 4 ounces of water, and pour into a cup. Add honey or a sweetener to the matcha if desired and stir well. Froth approximately 4 ounces of dairy, almond or soy milk and pour into a cup with matcha. Sprinkle some cinnamon or cocoa on top to taste.
