Lapsang Souchong History
Lapsang Souchong is prepared differently from other black teas in the sense that it is smoked instead of just dried or pan fried. This process was discovered quite accidentally during the Qing dynasty when an army passing by the village of Xingcun camped in a tea factory filled with fresh leaves awaiting processing. When the soldiers left and the workers were permitted back in the factory to finish the job, they realized they could not dry the leaves in the usual way to arrive at the market on time. Therefore, to speed up the process, they decided to dry the leaves on open fires of pine wood to dry the leaves more quickly. At the market, the teas created much excitement; to which a new tea was born!
How to Steep it
This tea is best enjoyed hot. Place one teaspoon of Lapsang Souchong into your infuser mug. Pour in your 100 degree Celsius water and let it steep for 2-4 minutes depending on how strong you like it. If you wish to add milk, we suggest steeping it a bit longer so it doesn’t dilute the taste. We do not recommend adding sugar to this tea.
