Ingredients: Luxury Black tea
A fine Indian Darjeeling black tea!
This lovely Darjeeling black tea earned its name in the 1930’s. That happened when the owner of a tea garden in India, Mr. Bagdon, lost his beloved daughter Margaret due to illness on a return voyage to London, England. Margaret adored the tea garden, and had always wanted to return to it. After her passing, Mr. Bagdon renamed the garden “Margaret’s Hope”. This Darjeeling is grown at high altitudes, and due to frequent weather changes in this environment, production is limited. Therefore, this tea can only be produced during three main times of the year. Also it is renowned for its full round flavour and fruity currant aromas. It is the essential accompaniment to scones with jam, or as an afternoon tea with sandwiches. So Margaret’s Hope is a tea made with love and loyalty, care and dedication, resulting in a tea overflowing with charm, grace, and character.
This Darjeeling black tea has a delicate tending astringent cup with the distinctive ‘Muscatel’ character. These hints of currant create an almost wine-like taste. It is a type of Orange Pekoe tea.
What is orange pekoe tea?
The term orange pekoe is not a different type of tea, but a classification of the tea leaf from the tea plant. Additionally it is base don the origin of the leaf. To be classified as an orange pekoe tea, the tea must be composed purely of the flushes – a flush being the leaf bud plucked with two youngest leaves. (Any other leaves produce teas of lower quality.)
So…the orange pekoe term refers to a grade of black tea based on the size of leaf and its location on the tea plant.
