Assam Black Tea at a Glance
Our loose leaf black tea is a CTC Assam from India, made with just one ingredient: organic black tea. It’s certified organic and Fairtrade certified. It contains caffeine, though less than coffee, with a bold, malty flavour and notes of toasted caramel that suit slow mornings, a cup with milk, or a homemade chai. Each 50 g bag makes about 25 cups.
Assam Black Tea Tasting Notes
The first thing you’ll notice is the aroma, warm and malty with a hint of sweetness. It brews into a rich, dark cup with toasted caramel notes and a full body. The finish is brisk and smooth, and even better with a splash of milk.

About the Assam Region
Assam is in northeast India, on either side of the Brahmaputra River. The tea grows at or near sea level in a warm, humid climate with plentiful rain and fertile soil, quite unlike the high-altitude gardens of Darjeeling. Assam also has its own native tea plant, Camellia sinensis var. assamica, and its first tea was shipped to London in 1838. Today the region grows more than half of India's tea and is known for bold, brisk, malty black tea with a bright colour.

How to Brew Assam Black Tea
- Tea: 1 teaspoon (about 2 g) of loose leaf tea per 250 ml cup.
- Water temperature: 90°C / 195°F. No kettle setting? Boil the water and wait one minute before pouring.
- Steep time: 3 to 4 minutes.
- Steeps: CTC pellets give up their flavour quickly, so brew one strong cup per serving.
- Strainer: the pellets are small, so a fine-mesh strainer or steeper keeps your cup clear.
- Serving: add milk and sugar or honey for a smooth, mellow cup.
- Iced: use half the usual water at 90°C, steep 3 to 4 minutes, then pour over a glass of ice. Add honey or any sweetener if you like.
