Tanzanian coffee beans are known for having a compelling sweetness and potent character. Made from 100% Arabica beans, our Tanzanian Peaberry coffee is a single origin that is sure to satisfy. This coffee is one of our favourites for its sweet wine-like aroma and smooth, dark chocolate, woody & nutty after tastes. It is available as a dark roast and comes fresh in a 1 pound bag.

What is Peaberry coffee?

Peaberry is a type of coffee bean. Typically the coffee plant consists of two sees that, when grown beside each other, develop flat surfaces.

Sometimes, however, only one of the seeds get fertilized and the second seed develops with nothing to flatten it. That’s why peaberry coffee beans are rounded or “pea-shaped”. As a result, the beans are fine and strong in flavour. Some connoisseurs are convinced the peaberry affect results in higher quality coffee.

Single-Origin Coffee

When speaking about coffee beans, single-origin refers to beans that come from one geographic location. This is important because single-origin coffee offers a more unique and specific coffee taste when compared to a coffee from multiple locations.

Whole Bean Coffee

We offer numerous grinds for all GROSCHE coffee beans, but we recommend shipping all of our coffees as whole bean coffees. This allows you to custom grind your beans for your preferred brewing method. It also means, that you get the freshest and most aromatic tasting coffee every time. Use a coarse to medium grind for French press and pour over coffee makers and a fine grind for stovetop espresso makers.

What is the Difference Between Dark, Medium & Light Roast Coffees?

Our Mocha Java blend is a medium roast custom blend coffee. When choosing your roast you have three options; light, medium and dark. During the coffee production process, darker roasts involve keeping the beans on the machine longer or at a higher temperature compared to lighter roast coffee beans. When this happens the coffee beans will lose more moisture and become less dense. In the end, this gives the dark/medium roast beans more flavour by taking away some of the bitterness.

So, any coffee lovers' preference will depend on their preferred taste and caffeine content. A lighter roast is dense with a higher caffeine content, a dark roast will bring out more of a single-note flavour and is less caffeinated. And a medium roast is a happy middle-ground between density, caffeine content and flavour.

How to Store your Coffee

A common misconception about storing coffee is that is good to put it in the freezer. Freezing your coffee puts it in contact with moisture which ends up draining it of its flavor. The best place to store your Tanzanian Peaberry coffee is within an airtight container, somewhere cool, dark and dry.

This could be a pantry or a cabinet, just as long as it’s somewhere away from heat and light. If you really want to store your coffee on your counter, keep the coffee in a canister that is opaque, airtight, and away from direct sunlight. Use it up within 1-2 weeks of opening to enjoy a coffee with the freshest, fullest aroma.
