A summery blend of strawberries, papaya and Sencha green tea
Long Island Strawberry is a summery blend of zesty fruit and naturally sweet green tea. It combines high-quality Sencha-style green tea from China’s Hunan Provence with all natural strawberry pieces and papaya pieces. It’s delicious hot but also makes for a great iced green tea on a hot summer day.
What is Sencha loose-leaf tea?
The Hunan Province in China produces some excellent Japanese tradition Sencha style green teas. Early in the new season the tea is a bright emerald green. It has the best flavour noted by a spring fresh character with pungency and body. Because of the careful production, the Japanese use Sencha for tea ceremonies that mark events of personal importance. Sencha tea is produced by steaming freshly plucked green leaf. In the next step, the leafs get rubbed either by machine or by hand for the needle-like tea leaf structure. The rubbed leaf is then pan fried or basket fired. As a result, Sencha tea has a distinctive glossy, almost waxy, appearance.
How to steep green tea
Like most green teas, the Long Island Strawberry is delicate and requires proper steeping for the best results. So to avoid bitter or astringent tastes, be conscious of your water temperature and steeping time. Because of the needle-like leaf structure of the Sencha, we recommend teapots or cups with stainless steel infusers such as the TUSCANY or ASPEN. When using a teapot with a glass infuser, the tea leaves could get stuck.
